Are you considering wearing your hair down for your wedding, but nervous your curls will fall? You are in the right place! Your stylist comes equipped with tools, products, and techniques to deliver long-lasting curls. However, without a little homework on your end, this effort will go to waste. Below are some things to consider and best practices to ensure your curls do not fall flat on your special day!

Be realistic with your expectations.

Your hairstylist will thoroughly prep, curl, and set you hair, which gives your curls the best chance at longevity. However, sometimes despite your stylists best efforts, your curls will still fall flat. Some hair types simply are not ideal for holding curls just as some curly hair types aren’t ideal for staying straight and frizz-free all day long. It is important to be realistic with your expectations as you know your hair best. Does your hair fall after 1 hour of being curled while sitting in an air conditioned building or after 8 hours when you have been outside in the summer heat?

If you have come to terms with the fact that your hair just is not ideal for holding a curl for an extended period of time, there are some additional things you can do before completely ruling it out and settling for an updo.

Properly shampoo your hair

This may sound like a no-brainer, but you would be surprised how many times your stylist comes across excessive buildup on client’s hair. It is crucial that you are shampooing your hair twice and lather the shampoo in your hand before putting it in your hair. The first shampoo removes any residues that builds up on your hair throughout the day, like natural oils, product build up (thank you dry shampoo), sweat, dead skin cells, and pollutants in the air. Now that all that grease and grim has been washed away, the second wash will lather up much better allowing the shampoo to fully cleanse and nourish the hair. This is the first step in properly prepping your hair to hold a curl. Read more on how to properly shampoo your hair on How to wash and prep your hair for the wedding day.

Incorporate clip-in extensions

Clip-in extensions are the best way to maximize hold and longevity of curls. Extensions help add structure to the hair, which maximizes the hold and discourages curls from dropping. We recommend either Bellami classic clip-in extensions or Luxy classic clip-in extensions, which have worked well for past brides. Extensions can be an added expense, but are well worth it when your curls hold all day long!

Book your hairstylist for touch-ups

If you dead set on having your hair down and are still worried your curls might fall, book your bridal hairstylist for touch-ups. You will not regret it! Booking this add-on service will give you peace of mind that your hair will remain flawless throughout your special day. If you decide to go this route, keep in mind you would need to step away from all the fun for at least 30 minutes to be touched-up.

Your hairstylist will thoroughly prep, curl, and set you hair, which gives your curls the best chance at longevity. However, sometimes despite your stylists best efforts, your curls will still fall flat. Be sure to follow these best practices to ensure your hair does not fall flat on your special day!
